The Communist Issue 15 - July 2025
Summer 2025 started off with several bangs.
Just a week into June, protests against ICE terror erupted in L.A., rapidly spreading across the country. Workers and youth poured onto the streets, taking militant action to protect their families and coworkers from being kidnapped by federal thugs.
Trump’s brief and ineffective war in Iran shook the confidence of his base. So much for “ending the forever wars!” He is already failing to deliver on his much-touted “golden age.” As this continues, more and more workers will see his campaign promises as more hot air coming from yet another politician.
Less than a week after the ceasefire announcement, Zohran Mamdani—a self-described democratic socialist— won the Democratic nomination in the NYC mayoral race. His come-from-behind victory shocked the establishment, which had poured tens of millions into his opponent’s campaign.
Zohran ran on a program of making life more affordable for working-class New Yorkers. For decades, capitalists have made a killing while workers’ standards of living plummeted. Any program that even mildly connects with the rage this has produced will find an echo.
But if the working class is to make serious inroads against the tide of attacks by the capitalist class, a revolutionary program is needed. This starts by breaking with the class enemy’s parties and from the narrow limits of their system.
The Communist is different from any other publication you’ll find in the US today. Behind this newspaper, there’s a vast network of communist activity from coast to coast. It is a tool for organizing in the streets, at protests and strikes, for building communist cells in our neighborhoods, workplaces, and campuses.
If you’re committed to seeing the end of capitalism in your lifetime, if you’re part of a rapidly growing communist generation, this is your paper. If you're ready to take that step, join today to become a member of the RCA.
